District 5280 Conflict Resolution Committee
Purpose:
The District 5280 Conflict Resolution Committee was created to attempt to resolve disputes that may arise between members, the clubs and the clubs and the district. The members of the core are provided separately.

Examples of Conflict:
  • Conflict of individual with the Club
  • Conflict of one group with another group within the club
  • Conflict of Club with the District
Mediation is a process whereby a neutral third party called mediator, selected and agreed upon by the parties, will attempt to bring the two sides of a dispute together so that they can reach an amicable resolution of their dispute. The mediator is not a judge and will not make a decision in the case as a committee may be 5 or more. The members of the Committee will act as neutral mediators selected by the parties to the dispute to help them resolve their differences. The procedure for selection of the mediator, or an arbitrator would. The mediator will not decide right or wrong. He or she does not have the authority to issue punishment. He or she is a  facilitator who will discuss the case with the parties on both sides of a dispute and facilitate their discussions. Through this process a mediator can bring the dispute to a resolution.

Not all disputes are suited for mediation and not all disputes are resolved through mediation. However, experience has shown that a large percentage of disputes, disagreements or conflict do come to a successful resolution if the parties submit them to mediation. Experience has also shown that the earlier submission of a conflict to mediation has a better chance of resolution than if the conflict has been allowed to continue for an extended period of time without attention.
