Director Helene Pizzini
Community Service
Helene
was born in New York City and came to California with her husband Quentin
in 1985. She has a BA Degree in Psychology and an MS degree in Education
of the Disadvantaged. Helene has worked in the non-profit world for over
25 years and has been the Executive Director of the YWCA of the Harbor
Area and South Bay for the last 14 years. Under her direction, YWCA
programs grew to include two additional childcare centers, a teen
pregnancy prevention program, a women's health program arranging for a
free mammogram for the uninsured and a program to help low income families
become more self-sufficient.
Helene has been an active member of the
San Pedro Rotary Club for the past 12 years. She has served on the Board
of Directors as Director of International Service, Director of Community
Service and as Secretary. She was Club President in 2000-200 I and during
her term, San Pedro received the Club of Excellence and Outstanding Club
of the Year Awards. She has helped the club to start several innovative
projects including an immunization program for seniors and "Senior Safe"
which distributed free emergency/safety items to seniors.
On the district level, Helene was a
member of the first District 5280 MODEL Program, has been an Area
Representative, Co-Chair of the Friday night Hospitality at the District
Conference, Youth Exchange Officer, member of the District Long Range
Planning Committee and Chair of the Group Study Exchange Committee for
2002-2003.
Helene and Quentin will celebrate their
30th anniversary this year. They live in San Pedro and both are Paul
Harris Fellows. Helene's hobbies include travel, tennis, gourmet cooking
and classical music.
