MUSICAL MUSES MOTIVATE THE MASSES
Setting the tone for this weeks artistic lunch was CLYDE SMITH as our song leader, followed by JOHN BOHN as invocator, who was joined by our new member DON MCDANIEL. Guestatarians and Visitarians were welcomed by GREG HARGRAVE. Our program chair was the inimitable, effervescent and always affable, JUDY NEVEAU.
This past week the muses from Santa Monica College came by to present us with a musical medley of marvelous measure. The four performers, along with their accompanist on piano performed pieces from various well-known musicals, from the silky tones of a torch singer, the touching performance of a duet, a powerful lesbian anthem, a butter and velvet duet and concluding with a cross-dressing rendition from that John Waters spectacular HAIRSPRAY.
GET OUT YOUR WALKING SHOES !
Yep, you can count on being tagged to spend an evening, or early morning, with that lady of the track, JUDY NEVEAU. She’s at it again, she’s team building for the ROTARY ROCKET, the club’s entry into the RELAY FOR LIFE. This is a great event to meet and get to know other Rotary members as the relay goes throughout the night at SMC and last year’s team had a grand time, staying up all night in the tent and gossiping – (or so I heard, I’m too old to stay up all night these days!)
PAUL HARRIS FELLOWS
The clubs ranks of Paul Harris Fellows continues to swell thanks to the tireless efforts of men like MARV LEVIN and HAL QUIGLEY. This latest crop of PH Fellows had HENRY ALCANTAR receiving his Plus Three pin ( That’s for those who are multiple Fellows!) JON KEMP earned his Plus One, PHIL TIRONE was going to get his Plus Two, but was otherwise occupied in Cabo San Lucas ( Let’s all pray he had a “fine time” and that the PresiDEEnt “fine”ds out by all commenting on his “fine” tan, when he returns!) this august trio was joined by KAREN BAKER, ROSEMARY REGALBUTO, SUSAN DAWSON, BILL HUNT on behalf of KATHERINE HUNT, (Lord I hope I got that one right!) and BRENDA and HERB KATZ.
FINE TIMES WITH THE PRESIDEENT
The coffers have been getting a little low, so it’s a good thing that BOB THOMAS returned to the club. He’s been away for a while, so the PresiDEEnt dinged him for missing a few too many meetings. $1,400 for his tardiness.
Cruising will cost you these days, even if you go to Grand Cayman in the Bahamas just for some relaxing and recreating, just ask KAREN AND BOB BAKER, their trip to the island paradise is costing them $96.
As if paying for a son in college wasn’t painful enough, PAUL LEONI has to pony up another $200 for his graduating! School fundraisers – they’re never done with you, you just become alumni!
For the man who runs the second oldest profession, $150 for an antique postcard showcasing the Palm Motel, that SPYROS, EVEN WITH AN INTERPRETER HE GETS FINED!

DAVID’S DOODLINGS
Whatever you do, you need courage. Whatever course you decide upon, there is always someone to tell you that you are wrong. There are always difficulties arising that tempt you to believe your critics are right. To map out a course of action and follow it to an end requires some of the same courage that a soldier needs. Peace has its victories, but it takes brave men and women to win them.
--Ralph Waldo Emerson
Last, but by no means least, courage - moral courage, the courage of one's convictions, the courage to see things through, the world is in a constant conspiracy against the brave. It's the age-old struggle - the roar of the crowd on one side and the voice of your conscience on the other.
--Gen. Douglas McArthur
