IT WAS A HEADY DAY
The Rotary Club of Santa Monica held last Friday’s meeting with the musical styling of CLYDE SMITH and CAROL JACKSON. The following leaders of the community in attendance at the head table: ERIK JORGENSBORG did our meet and greet duties, RICHARD LAWRENCE was program chair introducing DR. JOANNA VAN TILBURG, new face was JOHN PACHECO, and the only minister sponsored by a Pope ( Graham that is!) PATRICIA FARRIS led us spiritually as the PresiDEEnt kept order over the rambunctious rapscallions at the back table.
Dr. Van Tilburg gave an insightful and extremely entertaining presentation on the sculptures of Easter Island. The sculptures may look like all the same head to those of us who are uninitiated, but in fact they are each representations of various families that once thrived on the island. At one time supporting a population of over 10,000 people that was broken into family groups of roughly 900.
It was a wonderful slide show with a humorous and lighthearted speaker that made for an educational and enjoyable program.

Oh well.) at 10:00 a.m. SHARP, a big blue bus is leaving from Patricia Farris’ Methodist Church Garage and taking a group of Rotarians to SANTA ANITA RACE TRACK Where a behind the scenes paddock tour will enthrall Rotarians and their spouses (Don’t those spouses hear enough of our manure, do we really need to show them more?!) I’m lead to believe that there will be a table for us at the Frontrunner Restaurant all afternoon, and that there will be remedial class for how to give all your money to the track owners (otherwise known as betting!) Cost is $75 make your reservations with June Doy or Bill Hunt. Made is Paid people, you make a reservation, you’re paying!

THAT OTHER INTERNATIONAL FOOD FAIR!
On April 18TH, we’ll be getting together at TOM LOO’S Malibu Manse to experience the cultural cuisine of our members heritage. Please contact June DOy for Reservations. Guests are $25.00. We are dark on the 16th so this counts as our meeting.
MATH CLASS
Well, it appears that no good deed goes unpunished, I was called by a fellow member to cover his reading at the John Muir Elementary School annual fundraiser, and it cost me a $200 fine. Well worth it for the fun I had in a room full of children and their parents.
Continuing the theme of the day, BRIAN WEST’s organization the SALVATION ARMY got a record setting $1.5 billion grant from philanthropist Joan Kroc, so Brian has to pony up 0.0000001% of it thanks to the PresiDEEnts’ fines. That’s $150 for those lawyers who are math deficient.
It appears the high cost of marriage is continuing for MARK HARDING, he got nailed with a fine of $250 when his wife became a grandmother again! Good thing there’s a tax break in there somewhere for someone.
Lastly, JOE GONZALES got appointed to the City of Santa Monica to do something, somewhere to help out the perpetually understaffed and overworked Building and Safety. He has this editors, ( and new homeowner who is building soon!) prays and wishes for success.
NEW MEMBER ANNOUNCEMENTS
Well, he’s not a member yet, but BEN HENRY ROSS came into the world February 12th at the profound weight of 7 pounds and 2 ozs. Mother Andi Ross and Rotary Daddy Dave Ross are the proud parents.

DAVID’S DOODLINGS
At the end of every day, British General Harold Alexander would put any letters remaining in his “in” tray, into his “out” tray. When his assistant asked him why he did this, he replied: “It saves time. You’d be surprised how little of it comes back.”
