IT WAS GLOBETROTTERS ANONYMOUS THIS WEEK!

The new year is off to a grand start as JOHN MCINTYRE gave a stirring invocation with a global groove.  Also going global was BILL ASPINWALL who was our Welcometeer for Visitors and Guestatarians.  Heading up the program this week was DAVE ROGERS who was in charge of the Craft Talkers, ROBERT ADAMS and GERRY SMALLWOOD.

Up first was the Global Religious Explorer ROBERT ADAMS who was a Baptist by birth, a Catholic by his Momma’s thriftiness in tuition, and he thinks that makes him an honorary Methodist.  This local one time student rebel, has become the establishment that he was fighting against.  He is now the VP of Student Affairs at Santa Monica College, which is a global change from his days of sit ins at Loyola.  This local traveler comes to us from Nickerson Gardens, by way of City College, Loyola Marymount, the Teachers Corp, USC and finally Pepperdine, which  I think makes him an honorary Bruin.

The other Global Explorer was GERRY SMALLWOOD.  This man from England who comes to us by way of India, Iran, Singapore, Hong Kong, Bangkok, Kuala Lumpur. He covered his 75 years of global experience, world travel  and role as societal observer with a grace and wit befitting a member of that august group known as bankers.  He started in India back when the clubs had open contempt for the native citizens and now he is here to assist us.

We had an excellent pair of craft talks and as usual it gave great insight to the diversity and wealth of knowledge and experience that is present in this club.

THE GOVERNORS COMING, THE GOVERNORS COMING!!

No, not the one with the funky Austrian Accent, but our Rotary District Governor is coming this week, and we would like to encourage all to attend and show him how much we appreciate his good works on behalf of RI and the District.

CELLPHONE ANNOUNCEMENT

No, I’m not ranting again, the club is collecting old cell phones which are to be donated to the women’s and children’s shelter and re-programmed for use in emergency situations to prevent violence.  This is a great way to get rid of those old phones and not have them end up in a landfill.

FINES AND FUN

It was a costly time to be a U$C graduate and fan, the PresiDEEnt decided to fine each one of them $25, except for Paul Leoni, he’s paying QUADRUPLE! He must be a VERY big U$C fan.

We had the lovely JUNE LOCKHART present to thank us for our club’s contribution to the Santa Monica Police Departments Mounted Officers fund.  We helped keep the horsies on the road.  Thankfully only the riders, not the horsies came for lunch.

Conrad MD, was raised in Malibu and attended Santa Monica High School.  He received his Bachelors degree in Physiology and Spanish Literature from Revelle College at U.C. DAVID’S DOODLINGS

Keep away from people who try to belittle your ambitions. Small people always do that, but the really great make you feel that you, too, can become great.

 --Mark Twain

Whatever your hand finds to do, do with your might.
