Rotary Club of Santa Monica Remembers Dr. Al Quinn

Our long time member Dr. Al Quinn, passed away last evening February 26,
2003 at approximately 10:30pm at Santa Monica UCLA Medical Center.
Al was a pioneer in the Santa Monica Malibu Unified School District, as its
first African American teacher, leading to a career in the field of
education.
He attended local schools, earned his Doctorate at UCLA, and was the first
African American administrator at Santa Monica College, where he served for
many years. Following his career, he was elected to the Board of Trustees
at the Santa Monica Community College District. He mentored many
young African American and Latino students over the years.
He also served on the City of Santa Monica's Recreation and Parks Commission .
He served on numerous other Boards during his lifetime, including the
NCCJ, Santa Monica Bay Region, the Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
Westside Coalition, as well as being a member of the Rotary Club of Santa
Monica since 1961. We were honored when he became the First African American
member of our club.
Funeral Services are scheduled for 10:30am Friday, March 7, 2003 at the First
United Methodist Church, 1008 11th Street, Santa Monica, Ca 90403.
Our thoughts and prayers go out to Al's family and his wife Dottie.
