In 1972, to mark the 50th anniversary of the Rotary Club of Santa Monica and under the leadership of Aubrey E. Austin, Jr., Gerald Jennings and Ralph Kiewet, the Santa Monica Rotary Club Foundation was founded. The realized goals were to raise $50,000 and to begin a program to help deserving non-profit organizations in the Santa Monica Bay area. As of June 30, 2002, approximately $282,000 has been donated to the foundation. During the same period, the foundation has made grants totaling approximately $360,000 to over thirty organizations.
During the current fiscal year, the foundation has matched a $25,000 grant of the club by funding an additional grant of $25,000 to the Boys and Girls Club of Santa Monica. The monies are to establish a permanent after-school facility at John Adams Middle School. The new building will be known as:
"The Santa Monica Rotary Boys and Girls Club Center"
