A full complement of Rotarians participated in the Salvation Army "Red Kettle Day." The bell ringing took place all day on Friday, December 13, 2002. At least two different Rotarians volunteered for each of the hourly shifts. This is a community-wide event with active Rotarian participation. Captain Brian West of the Salvation Army is a Rotarian. The Event Co-Chairman Bob Gabriel is a Rotarian. The hosts of the counting party, PP Dick Lawrence & PP John McIntire, with Encino State Bank are Rotarians. Rotarians raised over $4,000 for the Salvation Army and a great time was had by all. Our Rotarian Chairman was Frank Lavac. A big thank you to all Rotarians who participated in the success of the event for this year.

| Every year there is a friendly cross town rivalry between the Rotary Club of Santa Monica and the Kiwanis Club of Santa Monica as to who is able to raise the most funds for the Salvation Army. This year we did it, as evidenced by the big smile on the best Veterinarian in town's face, Dr. Frank Lavac. |
