Joshua C. Needle, the political cartoon expert, was our speaker for lunch on  1/11/02

Our Photographer caught up with new member Myles Pritchard after our meeting. Myles explained that he is not new to Rotary, he was in a Rotary Club in the Bahamas for over 10 years before joining our club. Myles is a  Financial Advisor with Merrill Lynch, he is married to Jody and has two sons Tyler and Dylan. Myles welcome to our club! Joshua explained that a political cartoon is a fun way to provide   information on politics and history, and the amazing part is a cartoonist has only 5 seconds to convey this information to his or her readers.

Mr. Charles Murphy from the Aquarium of the Pacific was our guest speaker on 1/4/02

New member Kathy Dodson introduced our guest

Charles told us some fascinating stories about the fish and animals in the aquarium. He explained to us how smart the octopus really is. Hidden cameras were employed to catch one octopus crawling out of his tank each night, sliding across the floor and getting  into another tank to snack on his favorite fish.

This Year our traditional Holiday Party was held on 12/14/01

Santa got a "Quigley" for Christmas.

The  children from the Calthorp School Chorus received a standing ovation for their Christmas and Hanukah songs. We even had time for our birthday celebration, Chris Baker tells us he loves his present.

Arnold  Schwarzenegger and The Not For Any Time Players as the Andrew sisters were our guests for the patriotism lunch and USO show  on 12/07/01. Thank you VP George Collins and Past Pres Jack Siegal for arranging, performing, and putting together one of the best programs of the year as evidenced by the over 170 in attendance!

Arnold shown with his favorite fan Barbara Hopper. Arnold who was born in Austria told us how proud he is to be an American. I think he had a good time speaking to us because his final words were "I'll be back". Wisdom from our Governors on November 30, 2001

Current Governor Len Wasserstein and former Governor Garbis  Der Yeghian shared with us information on the worldwide peace mission of Rotary International.  Our new member Todd Lipka, Executive Director of Step Up on 2nd St., was very impressed with the Governors' message.

Andrew K. Benton, President of Pepperdine was our Speaker on 11/16/01

President Andrew Benton was introduced by Jonathan Kemp. Andrew said one of the main goals of Pepperdine is to help "perpetuate a free society" through learning.   Your Webmaster caught a picture of our newest member Kathy Dodson.  Kathy, became the Executive Director of the Santa Monica Chamber of Commerce in August of this year. Born in Dallas, Texas, she
earned her B.A. from Southern Methodist University, her Masters from the School of International Management (Thunderbird), and her Ph. D. from Clemson University. Kathy lives with her husband, Thomas, in Marina del Rey. Welcome Kathy to our club!

On 11/09/01 MC, Jack Siegal introduced Mike Nichols, representing the Army, Allen Young the Navy, Stan Johnson the Air Force, and  Herb Roney the Marine Corps. Each relayed military stories that riveted and moved every member in the audience.

Our Governor Len Wasserstein visited our club and was our speaker on 11/2/01. He reminded us how important it is not to forget to ask our qualified friends to join Rotary. He explained that through oversight no one asked him to join Rotary for over 20 years.
