To Love, Honor, and Obey!
President Lionel Ruhman (Right) tells us that 50 years ago his
lovely wife Elza promised "To Love, Honor, and Obey". He said the "obey"
part lasted about a week or so. Lionel and Elza will repeat their vows
tomorrow with our own Rev. Pat Farris officiating. Standing next to
the newly weds is the same best man they used 50 years ago. Amazing! |
| Michael gave us an example of how our middle school
children contact kids from indigenous places such as Tibet. The children
contact each other through technology using such tools as the Internet and
digital cameras. |
 |
| On 7/30/04, our own Olympian Mike
O'hara gave us an insiders view of the up coming Olympics venued for
Athens, Greece |
|
 |
Mike looks pretty good modeling his Olympic jacket he
received when he was on the U.S. beach volleyball team. |

We were ecstatic to finally get a picture of long time member
Stan Shu. Stan was caught celebrating his birthday along with new member
Dave Potter. |

|
Senior World Fitness guru
Bob Delmonteque was our
speaker on 7/23/04. Bob is shown signing his new book for our members. |
|

|
Listed Below are a few of Bob's words of wisdom to us for maintaining a
healthy life style well into our senior years :
 | Weight lifting is very important, this helps in the
prevention of osteoporosis. |
 | Cardio vascular exercise is essential for
maintaining a strong heart and circulatory system. |
 | Don’t eat too much. Bob has weighed 195 since he was
14. He consumes about 1800 to 2200 calories per day. The scale does not
lie, if weight increases, cut back on food, increase intake if you start
to lose. |
 | Don’t let your body run out of fuel. He recommends
eating breakfast, lunch, and dinner, with a small snack such as a piece
fruit a few hours after breakfast and lunch. |
 | Too many carbohydrates can kill. No, no’s are such
things as white breads, refined pastas, potatoes, etc. Watch out for
saturated fats. |
 | Healthy living can “beat the genes” by as much as
fifteen years. He gave an example of a person with parents who died at 50.
He explained that that person could probably live to be a lot older
than the age of the parents passing, if Bob's rules are followed. |
 | He recommends going to a gym or just walking for at
least a half hour 5 days a week. He advises (for most of us) that going to
a gym is a waste of time unless you hire the services of a trainer. |
 | Drink a lot of water. |
 | It is important to get sun everyday. (Light complexions two or three
minutes a day Ok!) |
 | Daily stretching is essential. This could prevent
walking in later years with very short steps (shuffling), or walking
in a hunched over manner (Stooped). He attends weekly yoga classes. |
 | Keep you waist trim. This is where major organs are
located; a large waist can cause major health problems. |
 | Wake up with a good attitude; look forward to what
the day brings. |
 | Exercise can wake up a sleeping sex life! |
 | It's never too late! Start living healthy today! |
 | Set goals for yourself. One of Bob’s goals is to
live to be at least 120. Seeing Bob, we believe that he’s going to make
his goal. We have scheduled Bob to speak to us in July of 2035, mark your
calendars! |
|
| Robert Segal gave us his "Classic Craft
Talk" on 7/16/04. Robert is the brains behind the world famous "HelpGuide"
Web Site. Robert thanks for sharing the memories! |
| Robert is being congratulated by one of Santa Monica's best Optometrists
Tim Shannon |

|
On 7/9/04 brand new President Lionel
Ruhman was jailed for too many "Ruhmanisms" |
 |
Lionel tells us his speaking coach is Yogi Berra. We believe
it when he introduced Tish Tisherman as "Teesche", Alonzo Hill
as "Alfonzo", Larry Maher as "Mayer", Steve Eorio as "Aerliola",
Erik Jorgensborg, as "Smorgasberg", and Joe Metoyer, as Joe
Montana. Any way, the meeting didn't turn out so good for Lionel when his two
favorite construction buddies "Aerliola" and "Smorgasberg" locked him up for
too many name construction code violations (Ruhmanisms). |
|
Smorgasberg applies the finishing touches!
