This year’s Rotary Club President, William (Bill) Crookston, has formally taken the helm of the Santa Monica Club. Crookston, who has a charismatic presence and an ear-to-ear grin at the ready, is one of Santa Monica’s leading citizens, having serves as President of the Chamber of Commerce (his photo beckons from the wall in the main meeting room) and now works on its tourism committee. A professor at USC, Crookston is spending the summer teaching a group of Japanese businessmen the fine art of entrepreneurship, which is a real challenge for people raised in a culture that values conformity. Meanwhile, Crookston’s Rotary reign promises programs as compelling as he is.
