International Food Festival.

On Sunday afternoon April 27th 2003, at the Malibu home of Tom and Stephanie Loo, the Club held its International Food Festival.  The Festival featured home-prepared dishes made by members from the approximate 18 different ethnic groups which the Club’s Rotarians or their spouses claim ancestry.  The afternoon event drew over 125 members and guests, including District Governor, Rick Mendoza, District Governor assistant, Pat Cashin and their spouses; and past district governor, Vicky Ridel who brought a number of Rotary Ambassadorial scholars.

The purpose of the family-oriented Food Festival was to celebrate the diversity within the Santa Monica Club and to raise funds to provide assistance to the International Charitable programs of Rotary International.

In addition to the great food and live ethnic music from several bands, the Santa Monica Club held a silent auction to raise funds for several international charities.  The silent auction raised over $8,000 for charities in the Mid-East and South America.  The event also included members from the Club’s Rotaract Club at Santa Monica City College who joined in the festivities.
