In order to commemorate the end of Hal Quigley’s reign and commence the year of our new president, Bill Crookston, the Rotary Club of Santa Monica held a Hawaiian luau for it's annual dethroning party. Unlike previous dethronings, this party not only had dinner and dancing, but provided Hawaiian entertainment with music and hula dancers. Everyone enjoyed themselves while feasting on the buffet and drinking the mai tai’s. This year there were over 160 members and guests in attendance.
Outgoing President Hal thanked all of his Board members and Committee Chairs, Vice Chairs and Members who worked so hard to make it a great year.
Hal's quote for the day was from J. R. Tolkein : " Still round the corner there may wait, A new road, or a secret gate."
Hal gave out special awards of recognition to the following:
| Service Awards:
Tom Loo | |
| President's Award - In special recognition of his dedicated service
- Larry Maher |
| The Herbert A. Spurgin Award - In recognition as the outstanding
New Club Member - Jonathan Kemp |

| The Austin-Jenning Award - In recognition of his outstanding &

| Joseph C. Gilbert Award - In Recognition as the Outstanding Rotarian for the Year - George Collins |
A particularly pleasant part of the evening was listening to Hal discuss the past year and what the the club had accomplished (under his great leadership), followed by Bill Crookston addressing the future of the club, and his plans for the year. This event gave us a great opportunity to thank Hal Quigley for his wonderful job, and to welcome Bill Crookston as our new president.
A big thank you goes out to President-Elect Dee Menzies for planning this event, putting on a great "Power Point Presentation - The Aloha Year - Pictorial Review" and making the evening go off without a hitch.
To remember this event we have attached lots of great pictures. Click on any of the smaller pictures below to see the full sized pictures (Who knows you may even see your face in living pixels).
