Rotary Club of Santa Monica

"2001/2002 - A Rotary Odyssey"

Yacht Cruise

As an added bonus to our District Conference, VP Hugh Travis  arranged a reception and harbor cruise on Saturday, May 5, 2002 from 1:00 p.m. until approximately 4:00 p.m.

We started our journey about 1:30 pm when we all boarded the double-decker sight-seeing bus. Our bus left from the front entrance of the US Grant Hotel. On route from our hotel location to the San Diego Yacht Club  we received a great tour of downtown San Diego.

We  boarded the Kathy Mae II at 2:00 p.m. and George M. Pardee was our host. We had over 30 Rotarians, spouses, guests, and Rotaract members who joined our tour.

Refreshments were served and we  cruised the San Diego harbor for two hours or so  before returning dockside.

Need I give you any more reasons why the Rotary Club of Santa Monica is the best place to be to build friendships and develop strong personal relationships?

We are off in the double-decker San Diego Sightseeing Tour bus.
Shown on top deck is Henry Alcantar with Janet Brown. She tells me that she wanted to make sure that I got a good shot of her shirt, so Spyros Dellaportas could see first hand the great work he did in designing our Rotary Club of Santa Monica Logo.
Shown starting left: Kathy Elder, George Collins, Pat Collins (not the Hip Hypnotist), and Bill Crookston. George is shown wearing the new "safari headgear look". Actually George is just protecting his skin from those nasty UV rays.
Hold on Tight! It almost looks like the start of a roller coaster ride, as Hal and Kai-Li Quigley, and Lionel and Elza Ruhman prepare to start their journey.
Boy, look at all those Rotaract members. What a great bunch of supportive kids we have!

What a good looking family! We caught this picture of Bashir Kadri and his family just as they boarded. Bashir tells us that his daughter is attending a San Diego University, so Bashir not only got to go on the cruise but he also was able to spend quality time with his daughter.
President elect Bill Crookston was quoted while talking to Kathy Elder. "Don't worry Dear, being President of the Rotary Club of Santa Monica will take no more than one half hour a week."
Barbara Hopper thanks our host George Pardee. Barbara and George are shown in the "Control Room" center deck, fore.
Kai-Li Quigley shown with Vivian Rivas. Kai-Li and Vivian are shown in the bar area located center deck.
John McIntire shown with Elizabeth Douglass. John is shown in the patio in the aft area of the center deck. This boat (or should I say yacht) is huge! There were over 30 people on board and there was plenty of room for everyone.
John Kemp shown with his wife Gina. John is shown relaxing in the top deck area. Looking at John and his wife's face, I think they could grow to like cruising very quickly.
Larry Maher shown with his wife Brenda and her "sister" Barbara Hopper. Bill Crookston asked Larry if the "M" on his hat stood for "Missing" since Larry got a little mixed up as to the time when our bus was to leave.
Thank you Hugh Travis, and thank you George Pardee. Hugh is shown with his good friend and our host George Pardee. George is now retired, but he was the CEO behind one of California's largest Real Estate residential construction firms "Pardee Construction Company."
Proud pop Jack Siegal shown with his daughter Jane. Jane is a member of the Rotary Club of Beverly Hills.
