Rotary Club of Santa Monica
"COLOR YOUR LIFE WITH ROTARY"
The 40th Annual Rotary Classic
The Rotary Classic Golf Tournament and Fun Day was brought back to Sterling
Hills in Camarillo on November 7,2000. The tournament started off promptly at
12:00pm with a "Shotgun" start. The Santa Ana Winds stopped just
before the start of the tournament and the weather was perfect for golf. There
were about 70 Rotarians and guests in attendance .
Golf ended at about 5:00 pm and the day was topped off with a fabulous dinner
and awards banquet. Our chairman Mike Chesser presented the following awards:
 | Glenn Ricard received an award for the Rotarian that had the most
fun for the day! |
 | Paul Gaulke received the 2nd Place Low Net Award. Paul is not
only a great Rotary Vice President, he is a good golfer! |
 | Bob Klein received an award for the lowest non handicap score
"Low Gross" with a score of 78. Most of us "weekend
golfers" are advised to keep our daytime jobs, in Bob's case maybe he
should get himself a caddie and hit the tour. |
 | Bob Aspinwall received an award for the Rotarian with the lowest
score net of Calloway handicap, the "Past President's Cup." Bill
informed us that he was able to get away and practice at three courses the
week prior to the tournament, including Pebble Beach. Bill, I guess practice
does makes perfect! |
 | Mark Olson received the prestigious "John English" award
for the Rotarian with the lowest score net of handicap. You can see a
picture of Mark's award winning swing in the picture below. |
The only thing missing this year was the "40th Annual George Ishizuka
Putting Competition." George Ishizuka passed away last month, and
our condolences go out to his wife Mary and family.
President John Lehne ended the evening by leading the group in a well
deserved standing ovation for chairman Mike Chesser, vice chair Mark
Olson and Committee.
