The kick off to the 2002/2003 year started at the Club
Assembly at Trinity Baptist Church on Wednesday May 8, 2002.
Vice President Tom Loo opened up the meeting and greeted the 50 or so
officers, directors, committee chairs and vice chairs in attendance. Tom thanked
our member Rev. Keith Magee for letting us use the Church’s auditorium. Tom
had all committee chairs break off into groups led by their directors in order
to share their plans for next year’s activities.
Next President Elect Bill Crookston ran through his goals and thoughts for the year. Bill also shared with us a little taste of his great sense of humor. Bill’s words of wisdom were as follows:
Perceived problems are just opportunities in disguise, take advantage of these. |
He stressed increasing membership, especially through young members. He talked about recruiting members from young leadership clubs, such as the Santa Monica Jaycees. |
He wants to streamline the committee structure of our club. He recommends that several committees be combined for more efficiency.
| |
He wants to emphasize the “ Four Way Test “ in our lives. He reminded us that these are not just “words”. |
He wants to start one new large project that many members can get involved in. This project would be a “sweat” project with our members actively participating in. |
Last of all he reminded us that Rotary is about having fun and developing strong friendships and personal relationships. |
What an enthusiastic group of members! If this meeting is any sign of what is to come, then we are going to have one heck of a good year.
| Mr. "Roll Up the Sleeves and Get Down to Business" Harris Levey Volunteered to be our chairman for our new hands on project. My prediction is that a lot of Rotarians will have a great deal of fun this year by getting involved. |
