SERVICE COMMITTEES
Jon Kemp, Director COMMITTEE OBJECTIVES The
International Service Committees are dedicated to the betterment of world
understanding. Rotary International
Service provides us with a unique opportunity to provide assistance, when
necessary, for our fellow humans, on a basis that we would never accomplish as
individuals. A.
GROUP STUDY EXCHANGE- Paul Gaulke Objectives: 1
To improve our Club members’ understanding and appreciation of the
Group Study Exchange program. 2
To participate in both sending and hosting a Group Study Exchange Team
participant. Projects: 1
Describe and promote the GSE program through the club bulletin and
through special announcements made at club meetings. 2
Recruit one candidate from the community for the Italy exchange 2003. 3
Host the Italian GSE 2003 team for one week.
This includes: (a)
Recruit 5 host homes. (b)
Arrange the week’s itinerary of group activities and professional
visits. (c)
Arrange the use of a van and drivers for local transportation. (d)
Dedicated the program for our weekly luncheon to the GSE team and its
members. (e)
Plan a reception at the end of the week in a Rotarian’s home for team
members, hosts, and Club members. 4
Encourage and assist our district committee in providing an end of tour
reception for the team and the district host. 5
Broaden our club’s involvement with the GSE program by recruiting
different Club members to the committee and delegating tasks appropriately. 6
Submit a timely and accurate budget. B.
ROTARY INTERNATIONAL CONVENTION - Dee Menzies Objectives: 1
Encourage and invite participation of club members to attend Rotary
International Convention in Brisbane, Australia, June 2003 2
To spread the word of our Rotary Club of Santa Monica at the
International Convention. Activities: 1
Stimulate greater attendance at Rotary’s International Convention by
providing information through the Rota-Monica, club meeting announcements and
personal contact. C.
ROTARY INTERNATIONAL FOUNDATION - Marv Levin Objectives: 1
To have every member of our Club be either a Paul Harris Fellow or Paul
Harris Sustaining Member by the end of our Rotary year. Projects: 1
Conduct at least two Foundation programs, one in November during
Foundation month plus one additional brief meeting. 2
Support R.I. Foundation by continuing to educate and promote to our club
the importance of becoming a Paul Harris Fellow through articles in the Rota-Monica. D.
STUDENT EXCHANGE (JAPAN - SCANEX) - John Miller Objectives: 1
To encourage participation by the Rotary Club of Santa Monica members in
the Japanese Exchange Program and to make them aware of other programs available
through SCANEX. Projects: 1
Host Japanese Student Exchange Team, August 2, 2002 (Getty Museum, Club
Meeting, Santa Monica Pier). 2
To encourage our members to have relatives apply for the Summer 2003
one-month Japanese/US student exchange program.
Applications due in March. E.
WORLD COMMUNITY SERVICE- Karim Jaude Objectives: 1
To review, research, and recommend international humanitarian projects
which the Santa Monica Club can make an effective financial contribution either
singularly or jointly with other organizations, utilizing where possible
available matching grants. 2
To educate and encourage support from our members of the humanitarian
causes outside our immediate community. Projects: 1
To continue with follow-up support to the Burn Center at Alejandro Mann
Children’s Hospital in Guayaquil, Ecuador. 2
To Identify a new health-care project for children and to bring together
as a co-sponsor a local Rotary-Club in the host country. F.
FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIPS- Monte Herring Objectives: 1
Sponsor at least one candidate for a Foundation Scholarship and/or as a
Group Study Exchange (GSE) team leader. Also,
host team members from other countries who are here in the community and
District (Ambassadorial Scholars to District 5280 to attend and speak at the
club). Projects: 1
Co-host District Ambassadorial Scholar Welcome Party with Wilshire Club,
September 2002 . |
