Dee Menzies And Crew Kick Off 2003/2004 Planning!

"Friendship and Service Go Hand In Hand"

Go Dee!

One enthusiastic crowd of over 50 of next year’s Officers, Directors, and Committee Chairs and Vice Chairs met on 5/27/2003 at Carlthorp School to kick off next years planning for the 2003/2004 year. President Elect Dee Menzies shared with us some of her goals and projects for the coming year.

This coming year is Rotary International’s 100th anniversary. Rotary International has suggested that each individual Club celebrate with a special project or event. Dee has chosen as our project the continued efforts on the construction of the
"Santa Monica Rotary Boys and Girls Club Community Center." She revealed exciting plans for our club to help build the expanded Center. It will consist of a youth center located at John Adams Middle School. The planned 6,000 square foot building will be the future home of after school programs for middle school age kids.

Dee gave us her ideas for the continuation of Rotary’s “Polio Plus” project by setting a goal of at least $50,000 to raise over the next three years. Among other things, she wants to create a major hands on event for raising funds for the community.

She told us her most important goal is for our members to have fun while helping the community. Speaking of fun, she announced next year’s chairman PP Spyros Dellaportas to lead the “Entertainment Committee."

She thanked her Treasurer Hank Walther for the idea, and announced next year’s theme “Friendship and Service Go Hand In Hand." By the way this theme goes great with next year’s Rotary International Theme of “ Lend a Hand."

After Dee’s inspiring comments Vice President in charge of programs, Nat Trives explained his thoughts for upcoming great speakers.  He explained that he is “just a conduit” and gave us a list of a dozen or so of our members who have great contacts who will help in the getting of excellent speakers.

Vice President Allan Young who is this year’s Officer in Charge of all of our committees ran down a list of new committees, such as  “The Newest Nine/Red Badge” project which will help new members get involved early and feel a part of our club.

Last of all the Club’s six Directors broke the attendees out in groups to discuss their plans for next year.

What a year is planned, I can’t wait!
