Announcements:

It’s been under wraps for weeks – the best kept secret in Redondo Beach. Now it can be revealed: The long-awaited dethroning of President Howard Kosters will take place on Saturday, June 8, 2002, at the “Cool Scene”, 2315 Artesia Boulevard, in beautiful District 4!  The festivities, including a court martial of Howie, will begin at 5:30 p.m.  Bruce Logan is putting the demotion party together.  He’s a dentist, so you know he can really inflict some pain.

ANNOUNCEMENTS

MEALS ON WHEELS: Dal Covington and Mel Nichols delivered in a record 42 minutes.  It’s amazing how fast you can deliver when the Chief uses his lights and siren.  Next week, the fun-loving duo of Ernie O’Dell and Wayne
Bradshaw will make the rounds.

TOMMY’S BIRTHDAY: Next Wednesday, June 5, the Club will celebrate Tommy Bowman’s birthday.  It’s supposed to be a surprise.  I don’t think Tommy has email, because if he does, then I just blew the whole thing.

GOVERNOR RICK HITS THE ROAD: Redondo Beach Rotarian Rick Mendoza, the newly installed District Governor of District 5280, announced that he will be leaving for Europe and the Rotary International Conference in Spain later this month, and won’t be able to attend the Club’s meeting for the next six months.  He immediately received a standing ovation.

FOURTH OF JULY PARTY: The Club will be sponsoring a July 4 party at Seaside Lagoon.  The price will be $20 per person.  Kids 5 to 14 are $10 and kids under 5 are free.  The price includes all food and drinks, including beer
and wine.  Scott Fellows is setting it up.

FINES AND STUFF: Ron Cody got hit for $10 for wearing a kilt at the Highland Games.  Jim Chen’s birthday cost him $20.

FEATURED SPEAKER: Eva Hussan, a Rotary Ambassadorial Scholar from France, spoke to the Club about her studies in film-making at the American Film Institute.  Eva, 25,  is a graduate of the Sorbonne in Paris, where she received a masters degree in English Literature.  She is in the first year of a three-year graduate program at AFI to be a film director.  During her talk, she previewed a portion of her first film “Wretched”, a story of a little boy and his father coping with homelessness.  Rob and Gay Swaine have
been Eva’s hosts this year.

Don’t forget Howie’s demotion party – Saturday, June 8 at 5:30 p.m., at 2315 Artesia Blvd.

Until next time, Kurt
